In comparison to fossil fuels – nuclear and hydroelectric power stations; natural gas powered combined
cycle thermal plants have lower start-up and installations costs and a faster commissioning return. The
heat generated by exhaust waste gases can be used to generate steam and electricity thus increasing
productivity.
Gas Plants by themselves have low productivity levels. Productivity is increased as a Combined Cycle
Plant and contributues to the national economy.
GENERAL STRUCTURE – Gas and steam turbines are operated simultaneously and natural gas is used
as a power source in Combined Cycle Plants. Apart from the electricity produced by the gas turbines; the
heat generated by exhaust waste gases can be used to generate steam and “additional” electricity - thus
increasing productivity. In this plant, because the upper temperature parameter of the gas turbine cycle
is extremely high and the lower temperature parameter of the steam turbine cylce is very low; combining
the design and operating advantages of the two cycles will generate productivity to approximately
50-60%
